WIC
Description
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a federal program that provides nutritious foods, nutrition education, and referrals to health care services for low-income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, as well as infants and children up to age five who are at nutritional risk. Services from the agency include breastfeeding and lactation consulting along with pumps for breastfeeding, food vouchers, formula, and baby food.
Residents can apply at the Lafayette County Health Department or call to register over the phone, and children receive benefits until they are five years old. The office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) and you can learn more at wichealth.org, wicconnects.org, and via the agency’s app.
